New Member Ministry Team

The New Member Ministry Team is a new initiative at St. Paul’s, beginning Fall 2010!

Our purpose is to discover, attract and retain new members and facilitate their incorporation into the life of the parish!

What are the goals of the New Member Ministry Team?

Our goals are to make our church, our worship service , our physical facilities and our activities welcoming and visitor friendly for new members.  We also want to make it easy for new members to feel at home and to become involved as active participants in our church groups and activities.

Our Mission Statement:

As Christians we are called to share the love of God and the message of Jesus Christ through the fellowship of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Trusting God’s love for all people, we seek to grow in faith by inviting others into our community.  St. Paul’s is diverse in both age and personality.

What are some of the current activities of the New Member Ministry Team?

During some initial meetings, the committee has discussed many ideas about promoting St. Paul’s to visitors/newcomers.  The following is a summary of some of the suggestions we are considering and working toward accomplishing:

  • We are pursuing having visitor parking designated with signs.
  • Greeters have been asked to escort visitors to Berndt Hall for the coffee hour and to introduce them to parishioners
  • Greeters will attend funerals to help direct visitors to the restrooms, the nave, and answer other questions.
  • Brochures that are colorful and updated are needed to give to visitors.  Catherine McGlasson from Communications Committee is working on this.
  • The need for a “visitor-friendly” bulletin has been discussed with this committee and with Communications, and that project is being pursued by Catherine McGlasson, also.
  • Members of Daughters of the King, as well as others, are sending notes to visitors based on the visitor cards filled out and on the guest register.
  • Development/revision of a parish Mission Statement is needed so visitors will have a sense of who we are as a church.
  • The formation of small groups who meet in homes has been suggested as a way to help parishioners and new members get to know each other.
  • We are in the process of forming a group that will volunteer to mentor a new member for one year after joining.  A list of helpful things for the mentor to do will be provided.
