Monthly Ministry Teams

In an effort to better organize our meal-support response efforts to families in need, Monthly Meal Ministry Teams have now been organized.

This is a ministry which grew out of our hospitality and funeral ministries to include our parishioners who are home-bound, in assisted living centers, or in hospitals or nursing homes.

The teams consist of four people who sign up for one month to visit parishioners who are unable to attend church and other parish functions.  Visitors bring their friendly faces, sometimes flowers, cards, cookies and church service bulletins.  When requested, the team makes arrangements to have Holy Communion taken to these parishioners.

There are many ways to minister to our ‘missing’ parishioners.  Each team is unique, as it brings its own fresh ideas and talents to this ministry.

If you would like to serve on a team or if you know of a parishioner who would appreciate a visit, please contact Sidney Harmon, 423-245-1002, jshtenn@gmail.com.  Should you be unable to reach Sidney, please contact our church office and your request will be sent to the monthly team chairperson.

If you or a parishioner you know falls into one of the categories below, please contact the Team Chairperson for that month. The teams will work to provide meals and other minor support as needed.

For Meals:

  • Major or inconveniencing illness
  • Bereavement/Death of a family member
  • Birth/adoption of a new child
  • Other situations where meal support could be greatly used

For Visits & Treats:

  • Shut-ins
  • Newcomers

Remember: The Teams cannot provide support if they don’t know you need it! So please don’t hesitate to contact the Chairperson of the month if a need arises.

If you would like to serve on a team (especially one that is short on people), or would like to be called on a flexible schedule to help, please contact Cricket Malcolm at 245-1529 to have your name added!

Notes to Teams:

  • The following folks could not be on a committee but are willing to help when needed: Jodi Smith, Alpha Rice, and Jenny Doogan, Alison Barton
  • If multiple requests come in for a month, the Team should contact other months’ team members for additional support (especially previous teams that didn’t have many requests)
  • If a request comes in toward the end of a month and support needs to continue, the Chairperson is requested to forward that information to the next month’s Chairperson
  • All Team members should have received a list of shut-ins whom the teams can serve. If you need an additional copy of this list, please contact Cricket Malcolm – 245-1529

Suggestions:

  • Products such as plates, cups, napkins, bottled drinks and a can of coffee are  helpful for families where there is a death or prolonged sickness.
  • For visits to shut-ins or newcomers, consider bringing a loaf of bread or a plate of cookies
  • For all visits, other ideas for things to bring include small plants, greeting cards, possibly gift cards to restaurants (donated by other parishioners)
