St. Paul’s Oncology Project
Since 2000, St. Paul’s has been one of the original area churches serving as a Church of the Month for the Oncology Unit at Wellmont/Holston Valley Medical Center.
Our dedicated group of 30-35 volunteers helps to meet the specials needs of patients and family members spending days and nights with their loved ones during the month of November. Many of our parishioners volunteer to spend time with patients visiting or reading, leading prayer services, offering afternoon refreshments or providing a welcome smile during a stressful and difficult time.
Two special events are also undertaken: the Sunday School classes serenade the unit on a Sunday morning and we serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to the patients, their families and the staff.
Our volunteers gain more than they give – it is such an inspiration to witness the courage of the patients as well as the commitment and love of their families and friends as they struggle and persevere.
