Episcopal Church 101

St. Paul’s is a member of the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

As Anglicans, we say that “Who we are is how we pray.” In other words, if you want to know what we believe, come worship with us. And we’d always love to have you join us for worship. (See service schedule on our home page.)

One of the things that happens in our worship is that we say one of two creeds, or statements of belief, together during our service. One is the Nicene Creed, and the other is the Apostles’ Creed. The creeds are used in our public worship (liturgy). Both of these creeds state the faith of the church, and we strive toward this belief over a lifetime of discipleship. These creeds are formed by the witness of scripture, and they also shape the way we read Scripture.

In a regular Sunday morning service, you will hear or participate in reading (or singing) four (4) lessons of scripture from the Bible, usually two from the Old Testament and two from the New Testament. A sermon is preached that is usually based on one or more of those scripture lessons.

Our worship follows the Services in the Book of Common Prayer, and Holy Eucharist (Holy Communion, The Lord’s Supper, Mass) is the focus and culmination of our public worship. Again, if you are curious to learn more about us and what we believe, please join us for worship sometime!
